Photography Training Courses

Jason Cole is a published professional photographer with over twenty years of photography expertise, Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to these training courses and is the head trainer at Cole Studios.

Our courses range from the beginner who wants to take better photos of the their family, people etc. to the experienced photographer who wants to be published and make a living taking photographs.

If you listen to what we teach you and put into practise the exercises then we guarantee you that you will be a far better photographer and capable of handling most situations.  At Cole Studios we have a very hands on approach to teaching.

Photography is just the start. The real magic happens in the editing. We have a course especially designed for this part of the process.

A little bit of education will ignite your desire to learn more.  Teaching has always been a strong passion for Jason.

Basic SLR (8 hours)

This course will take you from shooting AUTO mode to full Manual mode. We explain the various other modes such a (A)aperture and (S)shutter priority modes. Image composition is also explained in detail. We cover file formats and the advantages of RAW images.

You will also learn the use of FLASH photography and the various techniques that will give you fantastic results.

This course is in two parts, the morning session (4 hours) is theory and afternoon session (4 hours) is practical with a model.

Low Light Photography (3 hours)

Low light & night photography is perhaps the most challenging but the most rewarding of photography genres. It has been a personal favourite of mine for many years.

To qualify for this course you must have first done our Basic SLR course as that course will teach you the basics required for this course (or demonstrate  competence in [M] manual mode).

We head out just before dark and take some blue hour images then night time images. After this class you will be well versed in taking low light images and achieving clear sharp crisp results.

Post Processing (6 hours)

You now have amazing photographs but how do you edit them to make them really pop? This course is an introduction to Adobe Lightroom in the morning (3 hours) and an introduction to Adobe Photoshop in the afternoon (3 hours).

We will work on real world examples and show you how to make your photo spectacular. We explain the workflow process and show you how to get the most out of your images.

About Our Classes

The theory part of our classes is held in our air conditioned studio in Tullimbar. We have filtered cold water and amenities. Chairs, tables, notepads and pens are provided. The training is conducted using our projector on a giant screen and is module based.

All of our classes include printed courseware with detailed instruction.

Our ‘Basic SLR’ class is divided into two sessions. The morning is theory and is conducted in our air conditioned studio. The afternoon session is outdoors with a real model that you can practise the morning theory with.

Our Basic SLR class is limited to eight people per class to keep class sizes small and maximise learning. There is plenty of time to ask questions and we encourage an open dialogue in all our classes. Mobile phones are not permitted as they are a distraction.

The afternoon session is your chance to put into practise what you have learned and most importantly to ask any questions. We will give you tasks to do & check the results. We want to make sure that you finish with a practical understanding of the principals.

We are also available after the course for any questions or additional help.

Our Promise to you: When you finish the course, you will no longer be a slave to AUTO mode and your photography will greatly improve.
